Away

Away - Jane Urquhart Interesting book. I like Urquhart's writing style. Although, I wasn't so much into the fiction part of the story, which awas good. I was far more intrigued by the real history and politics included in the story. Who knew there was a real D'Arcy McGee to name all the pubs after! It never ceases to amaze me how little Canadian history I really know. Reading a novel like this, with the interweaving of real events, always gives me pause at the inadequacies of my early Canadian history education, particularly when I seem to know so much US history. The best part of the book is the fact that I was spurred on to look up more on the history of our great country and that of my Irish ancestors.
